Anarchy is the Rule of the Day

We Indians love to reminisce about the good old days of “Ram rajya” and the exploits of our ancestors in the fields of every known subject under the sun, namely the "pakshiraj" was the precursor of modern day airplanes et al. Under the aegis of our honorable Railway Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, we are literally being pushed back into the days of the baila gadi, for who can risk their lives to go traveling by trains in today’s day and clime? Too busy to sort out issues in her own department Ms Banerjee has taken on the herculean task of clearing out the Augean stable of the CPM ruled state of West Bengal.

As if 14 shameful train accidents in 14 months- with more number of people dead than we’d care to admit even to ourselves- were not enough to torment the bona fide railway passengers, we now have gone back to the days of armed dacoits striking terror in the hearts of people! And what was the result of all the hoopla about requesting the Central Government for a CBI probe into the Sainthia train mishap that claimed over 65 lives? Ms Banerjee’s stock-in-statement that the “opposition” is doing all this to embarrass her does not hold water anymore. The CPM is beset with its own problems and to engineer armed train holdups is difficult because most of the CPM goons have joined the Trinamool bandwagon anyway.

So if the honorable Railway Minister is done crying foul about the CPM goondas and the Maoists, can we expect some introspection within the railways department? And some positive results? Maybe it is time for Ms Banerjee to have a heart-to-heart with Laluji about modernizing the infra-structure and optimizing the operational efficiency of this mammoth organization. Not to forget ensuring the safety and security of passengers, on whose patronage the entire system is running. Taking ownership is all that is needed and Ms Banerjee will earn the good wishes of the 6 billion passengers who use the railways annually in India and keep alive the most eco friendly means of transportation in the country.

  1. Ms. Banerjee can make most pachyderms green with envy. That people of her caliber/disposition are able to hold on to power is a sad reflection on the apathy and impotence of the Indian people.
